VIJAYAWADA: The ruling YSRC is sweeping the elections to the Urban Local Bodies in Andhra Pradesh. According to the latest trends and results that are trickling in, the YSRC took a clear lead in all the 10 municipal corporations and 69 municipalities for which counting of votes is in progress.
The Opposition TDP could not put up an impressive performance in the Guntur Municipal Corporation too where it was expected to give a tough fight.

AMARAVATI: It was a virtual Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress (YSRC) tsunami in Andhra Pradesh urban civic bodies as the party captured nearly all municipal corporations for which results were declared on Sunday.
YSRC’s victories particularly in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur cities were a big setback to the principal opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The ruling party had left the rival parties including the TDP shell-shocked by winning 11 out of 11 municipal corporations and 69 of the 71 municipal towns.
The TDP’s score could not even touch the double digit in many towns. Although, TDP won majority wards in Tadipatri and Mydukur, YSRC is likely to bag the chairperson posts even in these two towns with the help of ex-officio votes leaving no urban area under TDP rule.

The D-day is here. The counting of municipal polls have begun in Andhra Pradesh. Ruling YSR Congress Party is clearly showing its dominance in the municipalities that opted for election. Opposition TDP is trailing behind. BJP, Congress and Janasena Party have failed to show their strength in the municipal elections.
Going by the declared results, YSRCP has won Done, Chittoor, Tirupati, Pulivendula, Erraguntla, Rayachoti, Naidupet, Kovvuru, Atmakur, Sullurpet, Punganoor, Madanapelle, Dhone, Palamneru, Macherla, Piddugurala, Kanigiri municipalities. TDP won Tadipatri municipality.
Tadipatri: In a tough-fight, TDP has bagged Tadipatri Municipality. This is TDP’s first victory in the Municipal Polls. Of the 36 wards, TDP won 18 wards. Elections to the six Urban Local Bodies, including Guntur Municipal Corporation, ended on Wednesday on a peaceful note barring a couple of stray incidents.
At the end of polling at 5 p.m., 61.67% of polling was recorded across the district. Vinukonda recorded the highest polling percentage of 77.30%, while Guntur recorded 57.15%, similar to the polling percentage recorded in 2005.
Voters lined up early on Wednesday in order to avoid the heat and crowds. The process of polling through ballot paper was time-consuming, but voters were seen waiting patiently at the polling booths.
