MACON, Ga. COVID-19 allegations are at the center of the latest dispute between labor organizers and company officials at a Kumho Tire USA Inc. plant in Georgia.
United Steelworkers union (USW), which has been locked in a years-long struggle to unionize the facility, is asking the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority to “intervene in a deadly COVID-19 outbreak at the Georgia plant.”
USW alleges “at least 12 workers contracted the virus and one died in the latest wave of infections affecting the facility.”
But Kumho is pushing back against union allegations regarding the company’s actions during the pandemic.

MACON, Ga.–Allegations of violence and race-baiting are being turned aside by the federal government in a ruling certifying United Steelworkers to represent workers at Kumho Tire USA Inc. s tire manufacturing plant in Georgia.
This is the latest in a string of labor developments that have involved the plant since 2017, the year after the facility opened in Macon.
A Jan. 20 ruling by Lisa Y. Henderson, acting director for Region 10 of the National Labor Relations Board in Atlanta, certifies USW as the representative of the appropriate bargaining unit.

MACON, Ga. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has certified the United Steelworkers (USW) union to represent workers at Kumho Tire USA Inc. s tire plant in Macon, amid allegations of violence and race-baiting.
This is the latest in a string of labor developments that have involved the plant since 2017, the year after the facility opened in Macon.

ATLANTA Kumho Tire Co. Inc. is launching two products for the North American market, the Crugen HT51 commercial all-season light truck tire and the Ecsta V730 performance passenger line.
Kumho said the Crugen HT51 is designed for commercial vans and transporters. Its five-rib tread design features a stiff center block design that Kumho said provides improved stability and enhanced dry traction.
The tire has four wide, circumferential grooves to increase hydroplaning resistance by creating a vortex effect, while 3D zigzag sipes provide biting edges for better traction and stability on snowy roads. Two spirally wrapped nylon cord caps reinforce two wide steel belts, enhancing the tire s handle, durability and stability at highway speeds.

A years-long legal dispute over labor representation at a Kumho Tire USA Inc. plant in Macon, Ga., apparently came to an end with the counting of disputed ballots that resulted in a narrow victory for union backers.
The company and labor organizers have been at odds since 2017, the year after the $450 million plant opened.
The United Steelworkers (USW) union claimed victory over the summer when contested ballots from a September 2019 vote were opened. Union supporters had a 141-137 lead heading into consideration of 13 contested ballots.
