Bangladesh has been on the United Nation s Least Developed Countries list since 1975.
Bangladesh fulfilled all the criteria necessary for its elevation to a developing country in 2018. In line with the UN rules, a country will get recommended for graduation if it can fulfil the criteria in two tri-annual reviews in a row.

More and better data is needed to improve knowledge of how to adapt to climate change, according to the European Commission s new adaptation strategy, which immediately came under fire from green activists for missing binding targets.
The strategy warns there are currently “wide gaps” in knowledge, which need to be closed in order to prevent “climate-blind” decision making
“We need more data collection and data sharing with more precise modelling of future hazards,” said EU Green Deal chief Frans Timmermans as he presented the strategy on Wednesday (24 February).
Climate adaptation is about preparing for the inevitable impacts of climate change – more frequent storms, floods, droughts, fires and heatwaves – which will continue even if world nations cut their emissions.

Chilima was speaking when he participated in a session on rethinking structural transformation in African Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in the era of technological advancement and innovation.
The session was part of the on-going virtual Africa Regional Review meeting which Malawi is hosting ahead of the 5th UN conference of LDCs.
