Grab those snow shovels and plows because you re going to need them this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Warning for Gallatin Valley until Sunday at 5 p.m.
It s been a snowy start to February and the Bozeman area is expected to see anywhere from 6 to 12 inches of snow in the Gallatin Valley while the local mountains could receive up to two feet of the white stuff.
Winds are also expected to be a part of this snow with gusts up around 35 mph. Temps will also drop starting Friday night. Over the weekend, we ll see temps in the single digits, and next week, look for sub-zero temps as low as -17 below zero without the wind chill.
Storm updates: snow continues to fall, I-5 reopens between Yreka and Redding

Although the snow has not stopped falling, Interstate 5 was reopened Thursday morning after being closed for more than 24 hours between Yreka and Redding.
Caltrans District 2 announced via Twitter that vehicles traveling northbound on I-5 are being allowed through Fawndale. Passenger vehicles are being checked for chains and only 30 big rigs are being allowed through per hour, as of about 7:30 a.m.
Southbound I-5 traffic is being checked for chains at South Yreka, Caltrans said. Oregon Department of Transportation is metering traffic through at Ashland, Ore. Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles with snow tread tires on all four wheels at Edgewood.

The first round of snow is expected to come through the Chicagoland area through the weekend followed by more snow Monday.
Light snow is expected Sunday and could leave up to 3 inches of precipitation, especially along the Wisconsin line, before Monday s main event.
The heaviest snow is expected late Monday afternoon through the evening, ABC7 Chicago Meteorologist Greg Dutra said Sunday.
Dutra said the worst commute will be Monday evening but heavy snow could linger into the early Tuesday commute as well. He also suggests shoveling a couple times, as the snow will be wet and heavy.

The snow will continue through Wednesday afternoon with further accumulations expected.
Environment Canada said a vigorous Pacific frontal system will bring significant amount of snow to Highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass Tuesday through Wednesday with total snow accumulations of 50 to 60 cm forecasted by Wednesday morning. “Warm air moving into the region may lead to snow becoming mixed with rain tonight,” Environment Canada said.
“The snow will continue through Wednesday afternoon with further accumulations expected.”
Environment Canada said travel is not recommended as surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots becoming difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
