The Alliance for Children’s Rights is seeking a dedicated individual to join our Education Program as an Advocate/Attorney. This is an exempt, full-time paid position.
The Alliance: The Alliance for Children s Rights is a nonprofit organization that provides free holistic legal services and advocacy to youth and families impacted by child welfare and juvenile justice systems in Los Angeles County, and works to enact policy changes statewide. Our lawyers, advocates, and social workers, together with hundreds of pro bono attorneys and community volunteers, work to ensure that those we serve have the tools to overcome barriers to stability and success, and access to the education, healthcare, and financial supports that they need. The letter was signed by officials from a host of community groups, including the Alliance for Children s Rights, AltaMed Health Services, Empowering Pacific Islander Communities, Faith and Community Empowerment, Fulfillment Fund, LA s Best, Meet Each Need with Dignity and New Hope Community Church. Several elected officials also signed the letter, including Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes and Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino, who this week asked the city to explore legal remedies for expediting school re-openings.

CA Supreme Court rejects suit seeking resumption of LAUSD in-person learning for students with special needs

The suit sought to force the LAUSD to resume learning on campuses for those students.
In its petition, Los Angeles non-profits Alliance for Children s Rights and Learning Rights Law Center claimed that the district violated a state law that requires schools to offer in-person instruction and provide the appropriate resources to avoid learning loss, prevent behavioral regression, and protect students mental health and well-being.
But the state s highest court disagreed and didn t offer any comment on the decision.
A planned suspension of all in-person instruction and child care in the Los Angeles Unified School District took effect as the number of COVID-19 cases in the region continued to shatter daily records.
