Insecurity: FG begins consultation across zones to create pathway to lasting peace

Advertisement The delegation led by Babagana Monguno, national security adviser (NSA), will meet with the governors on Monday in Kaduna state. Monguno disclosed the meeting in a statement on Sunday. In recent weeks, the country has witnessed rising tension owing to farmer-herder conflicts, ethnic clashes, banditry and insurgency. Advertisement The national security adviser said he met with service chiefs, heads of law enforcement, security and intelligence agencies to discuss the threats of kidnapping, terrorism and other security perils threatening the lives and property of Nigerians. Monguno said the decision to strengthen inter-agency coordination and stakeholders’ engagement was reached at the meeting.

The zonal meetings had been scheduled to begin  in Kaduna State on Monday, 15 February 2021 with all  seven governors of the North Western states.  According to a statement, Saturday,by the Office of the National Security Adviser,state governors, traditional and religious leaders, members of the legislature, non-governmental, youth and women organisations are to be in attendance.

Sheriff Arnott says Senate Bill 39 and House bill 85 currently call for any officer who shares firearm-related information with Federal agencies to be fired. The Sheriff says this would effectively hamper the ability of his office to work with federal agencies investigating local crimes. He says he appreciates a defense of the 2 nd Amendment but does not support the language in the bills. Sheriff Brad Cole shared a similar concern. You can read Sheriff Arnott’s full statement below:
