Gov. Charlie Baker said Wednesday that 120,000 new appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations will be made available for next week, including 55,000 at the state s four mass vaccination sites, as the state continued to scramble to improve the rollout of its vaccination program.
Baker toured the Fenway Park site on Wednesday where CIC Health is helping to vaccinate 500 people a day this week, and will increase its capacity to 1,000 people a day next week and eventually 1,250 people a day.
Baker said the state has made improvements to its vaccine website, adding an eligibility checker and the ability to search for sites by zip code, and will continue to work to make improvements. He also ticked through the various pharmacies, community health centers and retail store location where thousands of additional appointments are being added.
Oregonians could be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine at their local pharmacies as soon as next week.
On Tuesday, the Biden Administration announced the launch of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. It will deliver about a million vaccines directly to about 6,500 pharmacies nationwide to offer to their communities.
Vaccines will be offered at no cost.
Twenty-one national pharmacy chains are participating in the program. Those with Oregon locations include Walgreens, Walmart, Rite-Aid, Fred Meyer, Costco, Health Mart, Albertsons and Safeway, though it’s not certain that all will offer the vaccines in the state.
So far in Oregon, Costco, Fred Meyer, Albertsons and Safeway have said they should soon have the vaccine.
The program will start with 6,500 pharmacies and grow to include up to 40,000.

“Millions of Americans turn to their local pharmacies every day for their medicines, flu shots, and much more. And pharmacies are readily accessible in most communities, with most Americans living within 5 miles of a pharmacy,” Jeff Zients, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, said during a briefing Tuesday.
