LETTER | We are taken aback by a statement that was released by Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is also Ampang MP, in an interview with
Astro Awani on Aug 2, 2021, with regard to the role of Yang di-Pertuan Agong in advising the government administration in line with his responsibilities as head of state.
Zuraida (
above) mentioned, amongst other things, that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong made an error in advising the government and the need to refer to the government before making a statement regarding the cancellation of the emergency ordinance.

DESPITE calls for a total country lockdown to deal with the increasing Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, the current administration decided to tighten only the third movement control order (MCO 3.0) standard operating procedures (SOP) effective May 25.
However, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced a full MCO (FMCO) equivalent to the MCO 1.0 that was announced nationwide in 2020, from June 1 to 14 as the daily infection of 9,020 Covid-19 cases was recorded on Saturday (May 29).
“Only essential economic and service sectors listed by the National Security Council (NSC) will be allowed to operate during FMCO,” he added.

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 1 Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Santhara Kumar today confirmed that he left the country to New Zealand in December despite a ban on overseas travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, Santhara said that he had obtained the necessary documents and approval from the Prime Minister s Department and the Immigration Department to travel abroad.
“I applied for leave for 55 days. The application was supported by Federal Territories Minister on December 10 and approved by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on December 18.

KLANG: The call by the Sultan of Selangor to protect and preserve heritage buildings in Kuala Lumpur, especially those that are linked to Selangor, has been welcomed by many people.
Selangor Council of Justice of Peace president Datuk Loke Fay said the call by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (

“There is a need to preserve and save these iconic buildings as they have historical and architectural value, ’’ he said yesterday.
Loke said it was also important to preserve these buildings for the younger generation as many were not aware that Kuala Lumpur was part of Selangor prior to being designated a Federal Territory (in 1974).
The ringgit opened marginally lower on firmer US dollar amid news that the United States has an advantage in growing its economy and vaccinating its population against Covid-19.
