As the first COVID-19 vaccines began arriving in Massachusetts on Monday, a 96-year-old World War II veteran in Bedford became the first VA patient in the country to get the shot.
The VA Bedford Healthcare system said Margaret Klessens, a resident of the Community Living Center in the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, received the shot at 12:07 p.m.
Andrew Miller, a housekeeper in environmental management service, was the first VA Bedford employee to get the vaccine, at 12:20 p.m.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The newly approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will soon be given to some of Alabamaâs health care workers and long-term care residents.
Alabamaâs initial allocation of 40,950 doses has begun arriving in the state. The Alabama Department of Public Health says the initial allocation will be received at three sites on Monday and 12 sites on Tuesday.
ADPH says the vaccine is being shipped to 15 pre-identified Alabama hospitals with ultracold storage capacity. State health officials say they will release the names of the 15 hospitals on Tuesday.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBRC) - The Alabama Department of Public Health announced Monday afternoon Alabama’s initial allocation of 40,950 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has begun arriving in the state.
The vaccines will be received at three sites Monday and 12 sites Tuesday.
Vaccine is being shipped directly to 15 pre-identified Alabama hospitals which have capacity for ultracold storage of the Pfizer product. The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) is not providing names of receiving entities due to security and logistical concerns but expects to provide this information tomorrow.
