U.P. native is first commissioned JAG officer to receive U.S. Army’s expert soldier badge

IRON RIVER, MI – An Upper Peninsula native has become the first commissioned JAG officer to receive the U.S. Army’s prestigious Expert Soldier Badge.
Capt. Rudy Dambeck of Iron River received the honor on Oct. 9, 2020 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. A judge advocate in the JAG Corps, Dambeck said earning the badge was important to him.
Who cares for those who care for us?
For the military medical providers responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, the answer to that question is, in part, religious support teams.
In Eau Claire, Wisconsin, a team of two soldiers from the U.S. Army Reserve’s 785th Medical Detachment – Combat Operational Stress Control Unit, 330th Medical Brigade, 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support), are providing support to the nurses and respiratory therapists augmenting the civilian hospital here.
The two-person religious support team (RST), comprised of Army Capt. Ian Olson, chaplain, and Army Sgt. Steven Burns, religious affairs specialist, were called to active duty to support the Urban Augmentation Medical Task Force (UAMTF). Their first assignment was to provide services covering the spectrum from spiritual guidance to friendship in Eau Claire.

U.S. Army Special Forces, affectionately referred to as the “Green Berets,” are one of America’s most elite and capable special operations units. They have been at the forefront of the fight against terrorism, but their operational relevancy goes back for decades. Special Forces have a plethora of mission sets. Some of these include Direct Action, Special Reconnaissance, Counter-terrorism, Counter-insurgency, Foreign Internal Defense, Unconventional Warfare, Security Force Assistance, Information Operations, and Peace Operations.
History
Like many special operations forces, the Special Forces trace their lineage back to WWII. Several units laid the framework for Special Forces, among them the Alamo Scouts, Philippine Guerrillas, 1st Special Service Force, and the Operational Group’s Jedburgh Teams within the Office of Strategic Services (OSS).
WALLOWA COUNTY â To an outsider, Divide Camp may appear to be just a cluster of rustic wooden cabins, nestled in the wilderness of the Wallowa Mountains. To those who know it best, it is much more.
Divide Camp is a place where skills are built and confidence is restored. It is a place where broken hearts are mended and damaged souls are restored.
The camp is specifically intended for post-9/11 combat veterans as a place to experience the beneficial qualities of spending time in nature. This is accomplished through backpacking, fishing and activities taking place at the camp, where veteran guests are able to rebuild their confidence, calm anxious emotions, boost self-esteem and challenge their physical abilities.

Flynn to command U.S. Army Pacific out of Fort Shafter, Hawaii. Flynn, who currently serves as deputy chief of staff for Army operations, plans and training at the Pentagon, was key in crafting a new Army force generation model that was introduced this fall.
