Follow RT on Russia’s top diplomat has said his country has offered to set up a commission to broker a lasting solution to the fractious border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which has been the site of fierce fighting between the two nations. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on Wednesday that the issue of a long-term peace deal for the war-torn frontier was raised at a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which co-ordinates defense between six former Soviet Republics. Armenia’s acting prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan, had instructed his delegates to ask for the question to be on the agenda for the group, from which Azerbaijan withdrew in 1999.
