DAN TRUTTSCHEL Lee Newspapers SOMERS — The largest graduating class in its history headed out the door and into the real world from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday. And in the aftermath of a global pandemic, that says plenty about the efforts on that campus, Parkside Chancellor Debbie Ford said during a livestream address online prior to separate ceremonies held both online and in person. Graduates in the Colleges of Arts and Humanities; Business, Economics and Computing; Natural and Health Sciences; and Social Sciences and Professional Studies all received their degrees Saturday. Ford applauded the efforts of not only the faculty and staff, but of the more than 566 graduates who received their degrees in the 52nd Annual Spring Commencement. This year’s class tops the 2020 spring class, which at that time was the largest in school history.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the national theatre program reviewed plays through submitted recordings, but upheld its recognition of productions in higher education that promote long-term societal impacts through an artistic lens. UH Mānoa production, I’m Lot Lane (a solo effort) interrogates the power dynamics in race, gender relations, and theatre while addressing the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy and examining its aftermath in modern Hawaiʻi. UH Mānoa theatre students created, directed, designed and performed in the production. Graduate student Kealiʻikeola Simpson wrote and starred in the play alongside graduate students

Meet the Class of 2021 President s Award winners

by Rachel Stengel 14, 20 Seniors Goanio Chavarria, Dylan Erdelyi and Morgan Cerbone are this year’s President’s Award winners. The annual President s Award is given to three graduating seniors who have demonstrated exemplary academic and extracurricular achievements as well as service to Rider. The highly competitive selection process for the awards was led by Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Cindy Threatt and supported by faculty and staff who comprised the search committee. “All of this year’s President’s Award recipients are incredibly deserving of this honor,” Threatt says. “Goanio, Dylan and Morgan have all demonstrated outstanding leadership that has greatly impacted the experiences of their fellow students. Their contributions to the Rider community are valued and will have lasting effects.”
