Rural Kentucky hospitals await Moderna vaccine

Kentucky should be able to start giving health care workers the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine next week. The state will receive 38,025 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Eleven hospitals will receive doses including three in Louisville. But many hospitals in the area, including hospitals in rural areas, are not going to get any of those first doses. Only one county in the state is out of the red zone for COVID-19 cases, with some rural areas having higher incidence rates than Jefferson County. Still, vaccine allocation is not about need it’s about resources.

Corbin and Williamsburg were both recognized as winners of the Smoke-Free Excellence in E-Cigarette Policy Award during a virtual ceremony hosted by the Kentucky Center for Smoke-Free Policy (KCSP), the Kentucky Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Program (KTPC), Kentucky Department of Public Health (DPH) and the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. The award, “honor[s] advocates and city leaders who are fighting toward tobacco-free and smoke-free policies that advance healthy environments for Kentuckians,” according to an article by the University of Kentucky Corbin, Williamsburg and Campbellsville all received the Smoke-Free Excellence in E-Cigarette Policy Award, according to the University of Kentucky article. These cities received the award, “for strengthening their comprehensive smoke-free ordinances to prohibit the use of electronic smoking devices in the workplace.”

MISD says it won t return to in-person learning Monday | Local News

MURRAY — The Murray Independent School District announced Wednesday that students preschool through fifth grade will not be returning to in-person learning on Monday.  In a news release, the district said that all students will continue online instruction through Dec. 18. The executive order signed by Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear on Nov. 18 prohibits in-person instruction unless the COVID-19 incidence rate of a county is below 25 cases per 100,000 people. Per the COVID-19 current incidence rate map provided by the Kentucky Department of Public Health, as of Tuesday, Calloway County shows an incidence rate of 64.8 with an additional 20 positive COVID-19 cases reported Wednesday by the Calloway County Health Department.
