Thursday Update from Johnson County Fiscal Court

The information below was released on Thursday by the Johnson County Fiscal Court: Overnight, a third round of winter weather in less than a week has left roadways covered in several inches of snow creating hazardous travel conditions. Over the past few days, Johnson County Road Department crews, along with seven tree removal contractors have worked diligently to remove downed trees and open roadways. Initially, due to the unique challenges created by the ice storm along with power lines intertwined with downed trees, crews focused on opening roadways to create access for emergency personnel to respond to critical incidents. A request was made to Kentucky Office of Emergency Management for National Guard and Kentucky Division of Forestry personnel for assistance and those crews are arriving today. By this evening, it is expected that nearly all county roadways will be open. To report a downed tree in a county roadway, please contact the Johnson County Road Department at 606-789-2576

Gov Beshear Provides Update on Winter Storm Impacts

/ WSIP AM 1490 | CBS Sports Feb 18, 2021 7:33 PM Today, Gov. Andy Beshear said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) crews worked overnight and into this morning to maintain mobility along critical routes across the state following the third winter storm to strike the commonwealth in a week. More than half of customers impacted by power outages in Eastern Kentucky have had power restored. “State road crews and contractors have been focusing on high-priority routes, and in some areas they are tackling secondary routes as well,” Gov. Beshear said. “In Eastern and Northeastern Kentucky especially, the challenge of clearing roads continues to be made more difficult by downed trees and power lines. Electricity has been restored to approximately 85,000 customers after outages peaked at 154,000. That’s substantial progress, but much work remains to be done until power is restored to every Kentuckian who has been impacted.”
