Police were called to a residence in the Cape York community about 9pm on Monday night following reports of a domestic violence disturbance. A police spokesman said officers arrived to find a man allegedly attacking a woman known to him and deployed a taser before he was taken into custody. Aurukun police station and courthouse. The 37-year-old man has since been charged with attempted murder offence and assault occasioning bodily harm while armed with an offensive instrument.

Subscriber only A YOUNG woman who allegedly made her pet dog lick peanut butter from her genitals has been banned from owning another animal. Bethany Joan Elizabeth Kemmis, 24, faced the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday charged with breach of duty of care by inappropriate handling. The court heard she is also facing a second unrelated charge of stealing which she was already on bail for. She has not entered pleas for either charge. It is understood the RSPCA was also involved in the investigation. Police prosecutor Codi Dalley asked for Magistrate Terence Browne to impose an interim prohibition order, prior to the matter being finalised, which would prevent her owning or purchasing another animal without approval from the RSPCA.
A MAGISTRATE has reserved his decision over whether a daycare worker will be committed to stand trial over the death of a little boy left on a bus. Dionne Batrice Grills barrister Tony Kimmins has argued she was not responsible for the death of Maliq (Meeky) Nicholas Floyd Namok-Malamoo, 3, who was allegedly left on the Edmonton Goodstart Early Learning centre bus for six hours in February last year. The 34-year-old and the centre director Michael Lewis, 45, were both charged with manslaughter as both were allegedly on the bus when he was collected from his house and driven to the centre.

Cairns police have charged a man with armed robbery and dangerous driving after a 70-year-old man allegedly had his car stolen at Palm Cove this morning.
Police will allege at around 7.45am the 70-year-old was confronted by an armed man in an Amphora Street car park, with the man fleeing in the victim’s 4WD.
Over the next several hours the vehicle was sighted by police and members of the public in various locations in and around Cairns allegedly at times disobeying traffic signals, on the wrong side of the road and on the footpath.
