Veneremur Cernui – Down in Adoration Falling, Bishop Thomas Olmsted of the Diocese of Phoenix recommends to the faithful daily Mass and more frequent Eucharistic adoration, and asks priests to lead an annual Eucharistic procession in their parishes. The bishop’s letter, promulgated on April 1, 2021, explains that the Church “requires Catholic leaders who have publicly supported gravely immoral laws such as abortion and euthanasia to refrain from receiving Holy Communion until they publicly repent and receive the Sacrament of Penance.”

One of the earliest memories I have of Franciscan University, which is the school in Steubenville, Ohio where I teach, took place one evening years ago while leaving my office to go home. Fr. Benedict Groeschel, a wise and holy priest who founded the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, and who himself went home (to God) in 2014, was giving a talk in the chapel to an overflow audience of students. So many, in fact, that a hundred or more were lined up outside hoping to get in. “What is he talking about?” I asked a student. With a big smile on his face, the young man shot back: “Chastity!”

ROME Catholic politicians who publicly promote the practice of abortion on demand may not receive Holy Communion, Cardinal Raymond Burke declared this week.
A Catholic “who publicly and obstinately opposes the truth regarding faith and morals may not present himself or herself to receive Holy Communion and neither may the minister of Holy Communion give him or her the Sacrament,” said Cardinal Burke in extended statement posted on April 7.
For many years, Burke a canon lawyer and the former head of the Vatican’s highest court has insisted Canon Law forbids politicians who defend and promote abortion from receiving Communion, but this teaching takes on special relevance in the case of President Joe Biden, a Catholic who actively supports abortion on demand.

Catholic teaching on Communion applies to politicians who support abortion, too, Bishop Olmsted says 04/07/2021 at 1:33 PM Posted by Kevin Edward White

Catholic teaching sees the Eucharist as Christ’s transformative sacrifice on the cross and this Holy Communion must only be received worthily. This teaching is not partisan, but it certainly applies to political leaders who back abortion and euthanasia, Bishop Thomas Olmsted of Phoenix has said in an apostolic exhortation on the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.
“Not all moral issues have the same weight as abortion and euthanasia. The Church teaches that abortion or euthanasia is an intrinsically grave sin and that there is a grave and clear obligation for all Catholics to oppose them by conscientious objection,” the bishop said.
