CONCORD, NH A man who would have been brought up on a murder charge, accused of shooting his wife, when released from a Boston hospital due to burns he received in a fire, has died.
Manoel Viana, 57, died on Thursday, according to Kate Giaquinto, the director of communications for the New Hampshire Attorney General s Office, due to injuries he received on Sunday on Mt. Pleasant Street in Derry, after his house caught on fire. His cause of death is pending after an autopsy on Friday.
During a custody exchange of their adult child at Mr. Viana s 27 Mt. Pleasant St. residence on April 4, 2021, Mr. Viana invited Ms. Viana inside the residence, Kate Giaquinto, the director of communications for the attorney general s office, said. Shortly after Ms. Viana entered Mr. Viana s residence, two noises, consistent with gunshots, were heard from within the residence. Shortly thereafter, the residence was engulfed in fire. The presence of ignitable liquids was detected within the residence and on or around Ms. Viana s body.
Manoel Viana was dragged to safety from the burning home by three police officers. He is still being treated in a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries including burns and trauma to his head, Giaquinto said.

CONCORD, NH An investigation into child abuse and sexual assault allegations at the New Hampshire Youth Development Center by the attorney general s office has led to charges against six men on Wednesday.
The Youth Development Center, now called the John H. Sununu Youth Services Center, is for teenagers who have been found to be juvenile delinquents or have been sentenced to serve time in a secure institutional setting.
Charges were brought against four New Hampshire men: Bradley Asbury, 66, pictured upper left, of Dunbarton, who was charged with aggravated felonious sexual assault-accomplice connected to an allegation from between 1997 and 1998 raised by a former resident; Frank Davis, upper right, 79, of Contoocook, who faces five counts of sexual assault and one aggravated fe

CONCORD, NH Concord s only public charter school, after burning through more than three-quarters of a million dollars in taxpayer funds while only operating for two school years, has filed for bankruptcy.
According to the filing, posted in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Concord on March 22, the Capital City Public Charter School owes vendors, utilities, its landlord, and even the Small Business Administration a combined $229,273.55. The filing comes after the school, which was founded in 2018 by Stephanie Alicea of Boscawen, as a school for public service teaching, surrendered its charter to the state in February after an audit found nearly $154,000 in questionable disbursements and unsupported federal reimbursements from the school s federal grant.
