[Denish Ochieng, Standard] Contractors tasked with delivering the national government’s multi-million shillings projects in Kisumu are racing against time to complete them ahead of a strict April deadline issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta. The President wants the revival of the railway line, completion of the port, a marine school, a road project as well as a power plant complete by April. Yesterday, a committee tasked to oversee the implementation of the projects inspected them and put the contractors to the task to confirm whether they will beat the deadline or not. The projects were birthed after President Uhuru’s ‘handshake’ with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Twitter Only 300 youth were picked to join a special programme rolled out by Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) despite 2,500 applicants expressing interest. In a statement, KeNHA noted that the beneficiaries of a scholarship programme under the Kenol - Sagana - Marua Highway Improvement Project (KSMHIP) reported to the various institutions where they have been sponsored for technical training. The authority further disclosed that 750 people had been interviewed for the programme but only 300 sailed through. In the programme, students have been enrolled in technical training institutions to enhance their skills in various technical fields.

[James Omoro, Standard] Over 5,000 residents of Rachuonyo South in Homa Bay County now say their homes and local institutions have been rendered inaccessible as a result of the newly tarmacked road. Locals decried poor workmanship on the 7km Oyugis- Gamba Road tarmacked by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) through the Ahero –Isibania Road construction project. Residents of Kowidi, West Kamagak, East Kamagak and Kakelo locations have complained of poor construction of culverts which has hampered the movement of motorbikes and vehicles.
