Govt Releases Details of Nairobi Expressway Toll Project

The Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development James Macharia has officially gazetted the Nairobi Expressway as a toll road.
In a gazette notice released on Thursday, December 31, the announcement takes effect with immediate effect, although the suspended expressway will be completed in December 2022. In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 (2A) of the Public Roads Toll Act, (Cap 407), the dual carriageway with Class A standard that connects the Mlolongo with James Gichuru road along the median strip of the A8 National Road are declared to be Toll Roads with immediate effect, read part of the notice.

Some residents have not received compensation for land they surrendered three years ago for construction of Sh5 billion Eldoret southern bypass.
Led by Kenya s former ambassador to Democratic Republic of Congo Jacob Chumba, the residents are now threatening to move to court to halt construction of the project listed as one of Jubilee administration’s signature projects in the North Rift region.

?A 17-year-old student is among four people who died in a road accident on the Kericho-Nakuru highway on Saturday.
The girl was on her way home for Christmas holidays after schools closed at the end of the term.
The four died after the vehicle they were in got into an accident at Ringa area.
Kericho County Police Commander Silas Gichunge said the victims’ vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another car whose driver fled.
“The Toyota Probox was being driven from Nakuru towards Kericho when it collided with the Nissan X trail,” Gichunge said.
Kenya Secures Sh14 Billion Loan For Construction Of Modern Rail Line Linking CBD To JKIA
Kenya has secured Sh14 billion loan from the French government for the construction of a modern rail line that will link the Central Business District (CBD) to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Transport CS James Macharia while speaking with Business Daily intimated that the construction plans are on track and would commence in 2021 and be completed in two years’ time.
“The French government has committed to finance the construction of a new rail link passing over Mombasa Road from Syokimau standard Gauge rail terminus into JKIA to the tune of Ksh14 Billion,” the CS said.
