Facebook Teachers under the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) issued a seven-day strike notice to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), on Thursday, June 3. KUPPET Secretary-General Akelo Misori - while speaking at a press conference in Nairobi - stated that they will down their tools if the employer fails to raise teachers salaries and offer them promotions. The decision to revolt was occasioned by TSC s delay to negotiate and implement the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), with the current one set to expire in July 2021. Teachers expect nothing other than a salary review this year. We have gathered that TSC was advised by the Salaries Remuneration Commission (SRC), but TSC has not shared the advisory with us, Misori warned.

KUPPET Issues Four Demands Ahead of School Reopening Kuppet Secretary General Akelo Misori File The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) on Tuesday, May 4, issued four demands to the Education Ministry ahead of school reopening on Monday, May 10. KUPPET Secretary-General Akelo Misori urged the ministry to republish the term dates for parents and school heads in order to avoid confusion. He also asked the ministry to address the uncertainties around the resumption of learning activities for all grade levels. Armed with chants, the teachers decried their situation arguing that they had resorted to the streets after the government failed to adhere to their plight. In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, police officers could be seen trying to calm the situation. The strike comes at a time when Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha had declared that the ministry was on schedule to complete marking the KCSE results. He affirmed that the ministry would release the results on Monday, May 10.
