CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Three out of ten people in Cape Girardeau have already received one shot according the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center. Now, they are attempting to reach minority residents in the county who may not be getting the message of the importance of the vaccine.
“The benefits far outweigh the risks,” Linda Adkisson, a nurse for the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center, said.
Today they partnered with the Salvation Army to administer the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, along with upcoming ones in effort to get more minorities vaccinated.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Properly disposing of unused opioid prescription pills can keep them out of the wrong hands, but flushing them down the toilet can lead to them ending up in your drinking water.
“Unused drugs disposed of, flushed down the toilet, get into the water system,” Georganne Syler said.
Syler is the acting Chairperson for the Board of Trustees at the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center.
She said many people who have opioids often resort to flushing them down the toilet, either out of fear or are advised to. She said these drugs can then get into the water everyone uses.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The ongoing pandemic highlighted the importance of county health centers and their role in public health.
It also created more public engagement the in April 6 Municipal Elections.
“Public health is much more than just one set of services, and it is more than one set of issues,” Jane Wernsman said.
Wernsman is the Director for the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center.
She said the coronavirus ad policies enacted to fight it have created more public interest in the department.

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - The Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center reported one more probable COVID-19 case on Monday, April 5.
To date, there have been 9,376 total COVID-19 cases and 9,234 people have recovered.
There are currently nine active cases.
