Turner & Townsend lands PM role on new Cambridge hospital

Turner & Townsend has been appointed project manager on the new £200m Cambridge Children’s Hospital. The new hospital will be built on the existing Cambridge Biomedical Campus in the city. It will integrate mental and physical healthcare, along with a centre for genomic and psychological research. The consultant will deliver project management, design team management, stakeholder management and cost management services. Design work will be carried out in partnership with architect Hawkins\Brown and White Arkitekter. Ramboll is set to provide all engineering services, while MJ Medical will bring international healthcare planning expertise to the project. Turner & Townsend director of healthcare project management Clinton Green said: “Cambridge Children’s Hospital will be a world-leading facility for healthcare and clinical research and the combined experience of the design team is well matched for the bold ambition of this project.”

Covid vaccine manufacturer AstraZeneca backs Stansted Airport expansion Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca – which developed the Oxford/Astra Zeneca Covid-19 vaccine – has thrown its support behind the proposed expansion of Stansted Airport. On Friday, the Cambridge-based firm told the public inquiry into the expansion that good connectivity to other locations with scientific “clusters” is key to the future growth of the life science industry. AstraZeneca UK strategy vice president Andy Williams said: “Stansted isn’t currently providing a diversity of locations. We would like to have connectivity to anywhere where there is a knowledge intensive sector or cluster, as a cluster ourselves in Cambridge.”
