Investigators believe a shooting in Chinatown on Thursday morning from which two men were seen fleeing on foot was a targeted incident.
The guns and gangs unit continues to seek witnesses to the shooting on Somerset Street West near Cambridge Street North just after 10 a.m. Thursday, the Ottawa Police Service said in a release Friday.

Patrol officers and members of the neighbourhood resource team responded to the call immediately, police said, but the two individuals believed to have been involved in the shooting had fled.
Further details were not immediately available, police said.

“This neighbourhood is a generally safe neighbourhood, as safe as any other neighbourhood,” said Somerset Coun. Catherine McKenney, who lives close to the district and spends a lot of time in Chinatown.
There’s no doubt residents have concerns after two high-profile violent incidents, McKenney said, referring also to stabbings that led to the death of one person and serious injury for another on April 23.
“They provide a headline that can be shocking. It is to me. But we have to remember that the stabbings and what happened (Thursday) morning are not related to each other,” McKenney said.
