Officials have urged people to stay home for months to avoid infecting themselves and others, and on Tuesday, they urged people to stay off the highways so delivery trucks from Michigan have less to contend with as they transport doses of Pfizer’s new drug to Pennsylvania hospitals in weather that could bring up to 2 feet of snow.

NEPA hospitals prepare to roll out COVID-19 vaccine this week

Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Allentown Campus, Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre, Wilkes Barre General Hospital, and St. Luke’s Sacred Heart in Allentown, as well as their Anderson campus in Easton and their Bethlehem campus, are set to receive the vaccine, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. “This is a pivotal moment in our fight against COVID,” Jeffrey Jahre, MD, infectious disease expert and St. Luke’s Senior Vice President of Medical and Academic Affairs, said. “The world has been waiting for this vaccine, and we are on the cusp of being able to provide it.” LVHN public information officer Brian Downs stated that the hospital network played a pivotal role in the mission to get the vaccine out during the fall.

Evangelical Community Hospital near Lewisburg is one of seven in Pennsylvania to receive the vaccine today.   It showed up by UPS and it was escorted to our pharmacy by our security.  We immediately put it into an ultra-cold freezer, Randall Strausser said. Randall Strausser is the Pharmacy Director at Evangelical Community Hospital. He says the vaccines came to the hospital frozen and must be stored at minus 80 degrees Celsius, that s 112 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, which is colder than anything stored at this pharmacy.
