Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], February 7 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting his intervention on the draft notification issued by the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) notifying 118.59 sq kms around Wayanad wildlife sanctuary as an eco-sensitive zone (ESZ).
In his letter dated February 6, 2021, Vijayan stated that the Kerala government is of the view that while notifying eco-sensitive zones, densely populated areas should be excluded. In the case of Wayanad wildlife sanctuary areas such as Tholpetty, Kattikkulam, Panavalli, Kurukkanmoola, Chaligadha and Kappistore, Cheeyambam, Moodakolly, Cheeral are the areas to be excluded, he said in the letter.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], February 6 (ANI): Responding to Congress leader K Sudhakaran s remark on his family background, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday said he is proud to be the son of a toddy tapping labourer. I don t think being the son of a toddy tapping labourer is something to be ashamed of. Sudhakaran knows me since I was a student at Brennen College. I don t have an inferiority complex. I m proud of it, said Vijayan.
Reportedly, Sudhakaran had earlier recounted Kerala CM s humble origin while taking a dig at him for travelling in a helicopter. (ANI)

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], February 6 (ANI): Kerala Police used water cannons and tear gas shells on Youth Congress workers who held a protest against the alleged backdoor appointment made by Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
The Youth Congress workers staged the protest outside the state Secretariat. The visuals show a clash between the state police and the Youth Congress workers after the police used water cannons and tear gas shells on the protestors.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday said he was not offended by senior Congress leader K Sudhakaran s remarks against him and he was proud to be the son of a hardworkingman who was a toddy tapper. Sudhakaran had said Vijayan, who hails from a family of toddy-tappers, will be remembered as the first CM from the working class to use a helicopter. He made the comments on Tuesday at the venue of Aishwarya Yathra, led by Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala at Thalassery in Kannur district. Asked about the remarks made by the Kannur MP, Vijayan said he does not consider thecomments as abusive as he was the son of a toddy tapper.
