Gallatin County Health Department Reports 2 COVID-19 Deaths The Gallatin City-County Health Department announced on Wednesday two county residents died from complications due to COVID-19. Both passed away in late December, but the Health Department didn t receive the official death certificates until today. The two people were women who died at their residences in long-term care facilities. A woman in her 80 s passed the week of December 20th and another woman in her 90 s passed the week of December 27th.  These COVID-19 related deaths now bring our total to 41 in Gallatin County since the coronavirus pandemic began in March. The Health Department sends our condolences to both of these women’s family and friends. Even though the vaccine is being distributed in Gallatin County, it will take some time for it to be available to everyone. Montana AG orders county to drop lawsuit against Rocking R Bar MTN NEWS By: Annie Johnson - MTN News Posted at 12:55 PM, Jan 14, 2021 and last updated 2021-01-14 20:16:47-05 (UPDATE) Gallatin County Attorney Marty Lambert, who represents the Gallatin City-County Board of Health and Health Officer Matt Kelley, released the following message on Thursday afternoon: The State of Montana is not a party to the R Bar case. The Attorney General may lack authority to “order and direct” a county attorney to dismiss a case where a local government entity, and not the State of Montana, is the plaintiff. The Attorney General’s letter cites a rule of civil procedure providing that all the parties may sign an agreement to dismiss a case. Today I talked to a party to the R Bar case, Health Officer Matt Kelley. Mr. Kelley does not agree to dismissal, so the rule cited by the attorney general cannot be employed to dismiss the case by noon on January 15, 2021.

Montana State Closer to Distributing COVID-19 Vaccine to Students While Montana State is gearing up to begin distributing the new COVID-19 vaccine to students, the first doses were administered to frontline health care workers on campus last week. According to Jim Mitchell, associate vice president for student wellness, MSU had 44 initial doses which were handed out to most of its clinical workers at University Health Partners, and the campus student health clinic. Students in clinical programs, who have contact with patients, are expected to receive the vaccine next week as authorized by the state’s Department of Public Health and Human Services.
