Events will celebrate Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month
Aisha Yaqoob Mahmood, executive director of the Asian American Advocacy Fund, will serve as the keynote speaker at UNG for Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. The event is available via Zoom at noon April 7.
The University of North Georgia (UNG) will welcome a keynote speaker and host a panel of students, faculty and staff in a pair of events to mark Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.
Though the month is designated nationally for May, UNG will host the events in April while spring semester classes still are in session.
The event featuring UNG community members sharing their experience as Asian Americans will be held the week of April 19 via Zoom. Details will be announced in the near future.
UNG earns Military Friendly Schools silver award status
UNG was named a Military Friendly School for 2021-22 and earned silver award status.
The University of North Georgia (UNG) has been named a Military Friendly School for 2021-22. It is one of 70 schools to earn silver award status and one of some 750 total schools honored.
The Military Friendly Schools list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine.
Nighthawk Engagement and Student Transitions (NEST) leads UNG s efforts to engage veteran and military-connected students. With recent changes to the structure of NEST, the university now has 10 staff members cross-trained to help these students.
MLK Oratorical Contest set for virtual event Jan. 27
The Martin Luther King Jr. Oratorical Contest will provide five students an opportunity to discuss what they believe King would view as today s most pressing social justice issue.
The 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Oratorical Contest will give five students a chance to discuss what they believe King would see as today s most important social justice issues and how to address them.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held virtually via Zoom from noon to 1 p.m. Jan. 27. Students, faculty and staff can register for the free event in UNG Connect.
