Don t look for Oregon Veterans Memorial Highway signs just yet; lawmakers and transportation officials want to clarify that a possible name change doesn t conflict with other honors on the route.
Efforts by Bend s Dick Tobiason to rename U.S. Highway 30 for Oregon military veterans hit a pretty big speed bump in the just-completed 2021 legislative session.
Members of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and Emergency Management tabled Senate Bill 790, a bill proposed on Tobiason s behalf to rename the road from Astoria to the Idaho border the Oregon Veterans Memorial Highway. The committee asked Oregon s Department of Transportation to clarify that the proposed name would not conflict with other highways honoring veterans.

A 14-year-old Dover girl was killed Saturday morning when the vehicle she was riding in struck a tree and overturned near Dover, Delaware State Police said.
The car was driven by a 35-year-old Dover man with three children in the back seat, according to police. Police said the passengers included a 7-year-old boy and two girls, 13 and 14 years old.
At around 8:30 a.m., the man was heading east on Fast Landing Road, just east of the Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway, and rapidly driving toward a moderate right curve in the road, police said. Due to its high speed, police said, the car failed to turn with the curve and drove off the north side of the road.
