This weekend is set to bring three days packed with big fun, big music and more starting with the return of another First Fridays in downtown Columbia.
1. Cowboy Church presents The Malpass Brothers
Columbia Central High School, 921 Lion Parkway, will play host to a special concert on Saturday.
CrossCountry Cowboy Church welcomes The Malpass Brothers for a night of music, food and more starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $35 and available at www.EventBrite.com or at the door. The music starts at 7 p.m. We look so forward to being in Tennessee, the band said in a Facebook video. We hope every one of you can come out and join us, and then have a blessed Sunday.

When some faithful Muletown Rec-goers heard the facility was struggling with the costs of maintaining the pools last year, they took action to save their favorite sport.
A determined group of athletes, high school swimming coaches, concerned year-round swimmers and health professionals successfully prevented the end of aquatics at the facility by raising more than $350,000 required to make the necessary pool repairs.
The facility’s owners said the ongoing cost of maintenance and repairs of the center’s indoor Olympic-sized lap pool and therapy pool resulted in the business’ largest operating costs, while showing the least overall member utilization.

From looking at a photo of the baby-faced United States hospital corpsmen from Columbia, Tennessee the viewer would probably not recognize the young Medal of Honor winner in World War II for his heroics on Iwo Jima on February 29, 1945.
John Harlan Willis was born on June 10, 1921 in Columbia, Tennessee and graduated from Columbia Central High School
He enlisted in the Unites States Navy on November 5, 1940 and received training as a hospital corpsman at the Norfolk Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia.
John steadily was promoted through the corps until July 1, 1943 when he achieved the rank of pharmacist’s mate first class.
