Food processing plant hit with second COVID-19 outbreak

The Canadian Press/Darryl Dyck Public health has confirmed a food processing workplace in Waterloo Region is currently going through its second COVID-19 outbreak. Listed as food processing 1 on the Region of Waterloo Public Health COVID-19 dashboard, there have been 88 cases attributed to the active outbreak at the workplace. There are 88 cases in total of which 77 are now resolved, said a spokesperson for the Region of Waterloo. Of the 88, 34 have been assessed to be community-acquired and 54 have an acquisition source that is unknown and some could have been the workplace. Public health says it is working closely with the workplace, adding that the company has made significant efforts to help decrease spread amongst employees outside the workplace.

Conestoga Meats dealing with second COVID-19 outbreak

KITCHENER A second COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Conestoga Meats. The region s COVID-19 dashboard said there are 85 cases associated with the outbreak, although some people may have caught the disease through community spread. The region s top doctor said 33 of the cases have been assessed to be community-acquired. Jeannette Enriquez, president of the Filipino Canadian Association of KW, said several of the infected workers are Filipino. A lot of (cases in) the first wave is Filipinos who just came in at that time, a few weeks ago, from the Philippines, coming back to Canada, Enriquez said. She added that the community has been hit hard by the disease.
