Rural fire reorganization proposal ‘merges’ Vaca-Cordelia, adds large Suisun piece
FAIRFIELD A reorganization proposal, if approved, would integrate the Vacaville and Cordelia rural fire districts and cleave a large chunk of the Suisun rural district into the mix.
The proposal was presented to the Suisun and Vacaville fire protection district boards of directors this past week. The Vacaville board approved a contract by which it largely assumes command and operational duties for the Cordelia district. The contract formalizes what has functionally been taking place for some time.

Firefighters stop Solano wildfire in its tracks amid regional fire danger warning
CORDELIA Firefighters from multiple agencies stopped a wind-whipped vegetation fire in its tracks Saturday before it could spread beyond quick containment.
The fire ultimately scorched about 45 acres in the area of Lopes Road, the Solano County Office of Emergency Services reports.
Firefighters from the Cordelia Fire Protection District; the Fairfield, Benicia, Vacaville, Dixon and Napa fire departments; the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection; and Solano County roads crews converged on the scene.

Green Valley focus of weekend fire safety effort
GREEN VALLEY Michael and Dorene Warchut planned to bring at least 10 truckloads of green waste for the Green Waste Days event Saturday.
It might be nice and green in the valley, but they both are very much aware that living in a wooded area means keeping up with clearing underbrush, removing trees and making a fire-safe space around their home.
Green Valley group schedules wildfire prevention cleanup day
GREEN VALLEY The Green Valley Fire Safe Council and the Cordelia Fire Protection District are hosting the first of three free Green Waste Days for residents in the Green Valley area on May 1.
“The free Green Waste Days are made possible through our generous sponsors, Republic Services and Potrero Hills, to encourage residents to remove surface and ladder fuels and create defensible space on their properties,” a statement released with the announcement said.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony in recognition of National Wildfire Preparedness Day is planned at 9 a.m. May 1 at Rockville and Green Valley roads.
