Planned IIT Goa campus to relocate after village protests
A permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the western Indian state of Goa has hit a roadblock as the government abandoned its plan to build the campus at Melaulim village in the face of widespread protests from area residents and a major clash with police.
The Goa government on 15 January announced that the new IIT campus would be shifted to another, as yet undecided, location in the state. But the events this month could also jeopardise Goa’s bid to become a higher education hub in the country.
Sawant said the state government under his leadership is doing well and is stable.

PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of mid-term Assembly polls, claiming that the current BJP government in the state will complete its entire tenure.
The tenure of Goa Legislative Assembly ends in February, 2022.
Responding to a question on the possibility of mid- term Assembly polls, the chief minister said there is no reason to go for an early election in the state. The BJP-led governments in both the state and Centre have been executing several developmental works in Goa. Few projects will be completed in the next few days, he said.
