.-Collezione Maramotti presents How To Be Enough, a project by ruby onyinyechi amanze. For her first solo exhibition in Italy, the artist has conceived a new multidimensional drawing for the Collections Pattern Room, working on a monumental scale she has never previously explored.
The work is made up of 15 sheets of paper that extend over the entire height and width of the rooms long central wall, creating a vast contemporary fresco on paper.
It’s serendipitous that this is the 25
th anniversary of Cave Canem. You can read a significant exploration of the organization’s history written by one of the early faculty members, Kwame Dawes, on the Cave Canem website. What follows is definitely not that. It’s more of a meditation on the ways we build community and what they might be good for while we’re all out here in the wilderness.
Because revisionism aside, Black poetry stayed in the wilderness in the 20
th and early 21
st century. We look back and talk about the Harlem Renaissance as the major movement and it was for Black people. The work being done earned that distinction even as it was a curiosity for readers outside of our community. We look at the Black Arts Movement and
Quiet Moonlight is Sun Wang’s debut solo exhibition featuring paintings with dynamic storyboards and disorienting vignettes which address social-economic as well as cultural struggles and themes, including religion, mythology, war and the rise and fall of regimes across countries. His goal is to create polyphonic narratives through images and brushstrokes without using a single authoritative voice. In 2020, Wang was selected as a recipient of the 20/20 Emerging Artists Fellowship, celebrating artists at a critical point in their career.
He uses the storyboard to explore multiplicity to examine cultural exchanges between the East and the West, especially in the post-industrial world where technology and media narratives influence the cultural communication between Eastern and Western cultures. Cranbrook Educational Community has named Jeff Suzik as the next director of Cranbrook Schools, following a national search.
New York-based Resource Group 175 led the national search.
A Michigan native, Suzik is currently the director of Fanny Edel Falk Laboratory School and associate professor in the school of education at the University of Pittsburgh, positions he s held since July 2014.
He brings more than 20 years of experience in academic administration including serving as head of school at Mounds Park Academy in St. Paul from 2013-2014 and assistant head of school at Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School from 2008-2013.
