While the fest is mostly good-natured fun, we can t forget that it s also a competition! This year, There Is No Evil and Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America took home the Golden Space Needle Audience Awards for Best Film and Best Documentary, respectively. My Neighbor, Miguel took home the Golden Space Needle Audience Award for Best Short Film while Miwa Nishikawa s Under the Open Sky won the Lena Share Award for Persistence of Vision (in my opinion, the coolest sounding award). More than 60 graduates of the Cranbrook Academy of Art will showcase the culmination of the past two years of their work starting this weekend at the school s annual end-of-the-year exhibition. The 2021 Graduate Degree Exhibition of Cranbrook Academy of Art opens for an ArtMember preview day from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. before opening to the general public on Sunday, April. The show runs through May 16. Due to the pandemic, RSVP is required at cranbrookartmuseum.org. The museum says it will only allow 50 people in per hour.

The funding also will help with long-term fiscal sustainability, the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills announced Tuesday. Twenty full-tuition fellowships for students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups will be funded through the newly established Gilbert Fellows program. A permanent endowment to fund the fellowships also will be established. Tuition relief and general support for the academy’s existing scholarships and visiting faculty artists over the next five years, with a focus on artists of color, will receive funding.
