HAZEL DELL, Wash. – The Clark County deputy who shot and killed a Black man in early February will be returning to duty next week, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators with Vancouver Police say Jenoah Donald, 30, was pulled over by Deputy Sean Boyle in the Hazel Dell area on February 4, and at some point the deputy tried to get Donald out of the car.
Vancouver Police say Donald pulled the deputy into the car, and during a struggle Boyle fired two shots, one of which hit Donald.

The Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Wednesday released all investigative materials received for the fatal Feb. 4 police shooting of Jenoah Donald in Hazel Dell.
Prosecutors received the investigation Monday from the Southwest Washington Independent Investigative Response Team, led by the Vancouver Police Department. Office staff spent much of Wednesday looking through the materials and redacting information that is not subject to public disclosure.

Prosecutors and public defenders in Clark County are pushing for more consequences after a district court judge derided a Black man killed by police in October.
Barrar Law Firm, among the largest defense firms in Southwest Washington, on Monday called for Judge Darvin Zimmerman’s resignation following the recorded and broadcast comments.
“The bias and the racism displayed in his comments have no place in our community and no place in our courtrooms,” the law firm said in a statement. “We must hold judicial officers to a high standard so that everyone in our community has equal access to justice.”

A Clark County judge apparently didn’t realize his courtroom conversation was live on YouTube as he referred to a young man killed last fall by sheriff’s deputies as “the Black guy they are trying to make an angel out of” and called him “dumb” for supposedly thinking he would go to prison for a relatively small drug bust.
