The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, February 17, nabbed carjackers who have allegedly been stripping car parts from taxis in Kiambu and re-selling in Nairobi.
The criminals are alleged to have been using taxi-hailing application to lure and commandeer vehicles after posing as customers. The vehicle parts are said to fetch very good money in the black market.
The suspects are said to have hijacked a number of taxi operators before driving their vehicles to remote locations where they proceed to vandalize and steal detachable parts of the vehicle.

A lorry that was stolen in Nairobi was on Thursday, January 28, intercepted by KDF troops serving under AMISOM in Dhobley town, Somalia.
The lorry, which has since been returned to the owner, had been driven across the border into Somalia.
The handover was witnessed by Officer Commanding Dhobley Police Station (OCS) Mohammed Abdi Omar, the Sector II Commander Brigadier Paul Njema, and Colonel Mohammed Abdi of SSF.

Summary
Insurance policy cancellations and withdrawals jumped by nearly a third in the six months to June last year after Covid-19-induced layoffs and salary cuts made it difficult for customers to keep up with premium payments.
Latest data by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) shows that policy surrenders rose by 26 percent to Sh5.33 billion from Sh4.22 billion posted in the preceding similar period.
Insurers have linked the rise in withdrawals and surrenders majorly in life assurance and pension products on the Covid-19 pandemic that halted economic activities leading to revenue falls, job losses and salary cuts across sectors.

A number of motorists in Nairobi have often been left counting losses as criminals continue to thrive in a delicate business that involves theft and resale of vehicle parts.
Theft of vehicle has been rampant in the capital, with estates such as Kariobangi being the hotbed.
According to the Association of Kenya Insurers, there are ready markets for spare parts especially of cheaper car models like Toyota, Isuzu, and Nissan. Mitsubishi and Mercedes Benz complete the top five.
Volvo, Honda, BMW, Ford, and Hyundai according to AKI, are cars less likely to be stolen and thus a low demand for their parts in the black market.
