World Sailing President Quanhai Li has said the governing body is fully committed to adapting and working with organisers of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to ensure a safe and successful event this year.
Li has issued his gratitude to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Tokyo 2020 officials and the Japanese authorities for their efforts to organise the rescheduled Games during the coronavirus pandemic and pledged his support behind plans.
The President’s comments come in a statement by World Sailing which insists its preparations for the Olympics were firmly on track following discussions with the IOC, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee and International Federations.
IOC RECEIVES WADA S CRC CONFIRMATION THAT IMPLEMENTATION GUIDELINES FOR CAS DECISION REGARDING RUSADA WILL NOT LEAD TO NON-COMPLIANCE PROCEDURES IF FULLY APPLIED 02/19/21
The decision taken by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on 17 December 2020 regarding the case of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) needs to be strictly and consistently implemented across the Olympic Movement. Any deviation from the award could lead to new court cases or non-compliance procedures by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
This is why implementation guidelines were submitted to WADA by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in coordination with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Federations (IFs). They aim to help the IOC, IPC and IFs with the correct implementation of the award. WADA’s independent Compliance Review Committee (CRC) has now confirmed that the guidelines are in line with the CAS decision and, if respected, would not lead to a no
Special CGF taskforce set to organise Birmingham 2022 boxing tournament Thursday, 18 February 2021
A special taskforce is set to be established to oversee the boxing tournament at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Boxing is a core sport of the Commonwealth Games and has featured in every edition since the first British Empire Games at Hamilton in Canada in 1930.
The International Boxing Association (AIBA), which was founded in 1946, has helped organise the tournament since Auckland 1950.
But, following its suspension by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) because of claims of mismanagement and corruption in June 2019, there are doubts over whether it has the authority to be in charge of the event at Birmingham 2022.

Smaller International Federations (IFs), with smaller operations and staff, are less exposed to the effects of the pandemic than larger organisations, according to a top Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) official.
Andrew Ryan, ASOIF s executive director, told
Reuters that none of the 28 Summer Olympic IFs would be bankrupted by the cancellation of the Tokyo 2020 Games, but that impacts could be worse for the larger sports. The ones with the exposure are the bigger federations that burn a lot of money from their reserves, Ryan said. That is where the risk lies. Some have very substantial reserves but they have been fighting very hard to deliver events, like handball and their [ongoing] World Championship in Egypt.”
ROME â The IOC is adamant the Tokyo Olympics will be held this year despite the pandemic. So, too, are Japanese organizers.
Now hear it from the man who represents the track and field, swimming and gymnastics federations as well as every other Summer Games sport.
âAt the moment, weâre positive that the games will be held,â said Francesco Ricci Bitti, president of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations.
âThey will be different games. But we, the federations, are open to accepting these changes,â Ricci Bitti told The Associated Press this week. âThey will be spartan games, with all of the usual services reduced.â
