Lagos kits LASTMA, VIO, others with body cameras to check abuse, crime

Photo: TWITTER/JIDESANWOOLUAs part of efforts to monitor traffic officials’ activities on roads, the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has equipped personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), among others, in the state with body cameras while on duties. He said that the measure was considered to promote operational efficiency, reduce personnel excesses and overzealous activities of officers while discharging their duties, and also enhance security and safety in the state. While announcing the newly introduced measure on Wednesday at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu also approved mass training for the state’s law enforcement

Security agents to wear body cameras in Lagos

It will be facilitated by the state’s Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), headed by Prince Oyekan Falade. After the training, all state-funded law enforcement officers will be commissioned to wear body cameras for their operations. With body-worn cameras, the law enforcement officers will be better equipped to protect lives and properties, thereby, making Lagos safer. According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the move would improve transparency and accountability in the activities of law enforcement agencies, and put the state government in a better position to respond to security challenges in real time. Provision of adequate security, the governor said, is a key pillar of his administration’s agenda, stressing that the initiative reflected his government’s resolution to ensure Lagos remained secure for residents and investors.
