From February 1, the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government resumed local trains for all Mumbaikars. But they will not be allowed to travel in peak hours between 7 am to 12 noon, and between 4 pm to 9 pm.

“Today before stepping out of my house I prayed to God and asked him what is it that he has in store for us! And then while on the way to work I was thinking that hopefully from here on things will change for good and we will again have some life.” says 51-year-old Baban Ram; a cobbler at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Baban has been working at CSMT since 1991 and he says the pandemic was the hardest time that his family has ever seen.
Mumbai s local trains resume services with restricted timings
Mumbai s local trains services resumed for the general public from February 1, but with restricted timings. Local trains will be available in three time slots: from the start of the day s services to 7am; 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm; and 9:00 pm to the end of the day.

For the first time after Covid-19 lockdown restrictions were eased, local trains services in Mumbai resumed for the general public with restricted timings on February 1.
At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Abdul said he s new in the city and that the travelling cost was affecting his pocket.
Local train commuters get the extension on monthly, quarterly or yearly passes

The commuters who use local trains will now get the extension for their monthly, quarterly, or yearly passes from February 1 while travelling on the Western and Central Railway. However, they will be given an extension for the passes for the unused days amid lockdown. Railway officials said the regular commuters can use the monthly pass depending on the validity left following which they will be directing all the ticket checkers to not stop any commuters if their train passes had expired during the lockdown period.
Moreover, for handling the crowd during the non-peak hours, the railways will deploy additional numbers of the Railway Police Force and Government Railway Police at the railway stations where more commuters alight and board.
