Subaru s new Outback SUV boasts a more powerful Boxer engine and uprated interface while also ushering in several firsts for the brand and segment.
For the first time, customers can choose between two trim levels. Pricing starts from R699 000 for the Field and R729 000 for the Touring derivatives, respectively.
Both models come equipped with a 2.5-litre direct injection Boxer engine that makes 138kW and 245Nm, mated to an eight-speed CVT transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels via a Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.

No, the Subaru XV has yet to receive its facelift in Malaysia, but distributor TC Subaru has introduced a mild update for the range-topping 2.0i-P variant for the 2021 model year with some added kit.
With extra bits comes extra cost, with the model now retailing RM3,000 higher at
RM131,788 on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of the sales and service tax (SST) exemption and a five-year/100,000 km warranty. The base 2.0i has been discontinued, so the 2.0i-P now sits at the bottom of the local XV range, with the pricier RM137,788 GT Edition being the only other variant.

The all-new Subaru Outback is the most advanced, most capable and safest car in the brandâs history. For the first time in South Africa, Outback is offered in two trim levels, the Field and Touring models giving customers more choice to suit specific lifestyles.
Subaru is a relatively small brand in South Africa. Globally, and in Japan, they are more reckoned, but local successes are a far cry from what they would have wanted and liked. Their product offering, too, is not too shabby, with SUVs and crossovers making up the bulk of their portfolio. The famed Impreza WRX and WRX STi are the only sedans in its stable, but one gets the idea that even these cars days are numbered - at least in South Africa.
For 2021, Subaru opted to refresh one of its most important vehicles, the Forester. Having come to market in 1997, the SUV went on to establish itself in the local car parc. It garnered a reputation of note among off-roaders, gravel lovers, and those looking for a vehicle that can clear the bushveld on a Saturday and look as classy as ever en route to church on a Sunday.
