Medical Groups Back Vaccine Mandates for Health Care Workers
July 14, 2021 A group of six medical organizations has put out a statement urging hospitals and other health care facilities to require all workers to be vaccine against COVID-19. The COVID-19 vaccines in use in the United States have been shown to be safe and effective, said the statement s lead author, David Weber, MD, MPH, an infection prevention specialist at the University of North Carolina s School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, and a board member of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. We believe that the benefits of the vaccine for our health care providers far outweigh any possible harms and we strongly endorse this statement, Weber said in a news briefing Tuesday.

ASM, with the support of fellow science organizations and institutions, issued the following letter to the House Appropriations Committee urging them to reject attempts to impose restrictions on federally funded research or the operations of federal science agencies based on premature conclusions about how the pandemic emerged. Such efforts could have serious, negative unintended consequences for potentially lifesaving research.
This letter follows ASM’s call for governments, international agencies, and scientists to work together to initiate an objective evaluation of the virus’s origins.

Berlin (CNSNews.com) – As COVID-19 cases pick up across Europe due to the “delta” variant of the virus, the German government says it won’t impose mandatory vaccine requirements, following controversial decisions to do so for healthcare workers in France, Britain, Greece, and Italy.
Speaking during a visit to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) – the government agency for disease control and prevention Chancellor Angela Merkel said there would be no obligation to vaccinate in Germany, as mandating shots could endanger public trust.
