County Emergency Management wants YOUR input on Wildfire Protection Planning

County Emergency Management wants YOUR input on Wildfire Protection Planning Published: 10 May 2021 10 May 2021 Yuma, Arizona - The Yuma County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is updating its Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). We need your input on wildfire risks and hazards that affect your home and community. Provide your opinion on strategies to reduce risks. A CWPP is a plan developed collaboratively that identifies wildland fire hazards, prioritizes measures to reduce those hazards and recommends ways for homeowners and communities to reduce ignitability of structures in areas of the County identified as wildland urban interface (WUI). As part of the CWPP update, Yuma County OEM will collaborate with homeowners, fire departments, state and local officials, and others agencies to address the specific needs of our community, inform decision-makers, and guide interventions that protect life, property and infrastructure from wildfire.

Truckee Fire stumps for Wildfire Protection Measure

Annual tax would be $179 per parcel for property owners By Justin Scacco | Special to The Union The 2018 Camp Fire that devastated Paradise marked the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state’s history. Since that time, fire officials have drawn comparisons between Paradise and the scenic forests that surround the Truckee area. In order to prevent and mitigate a catastrophic wildfire, the Truckee Fire Protection District is advocating for a measure that would cost property owners $179 per year, per parcel, for work that would include: Removing dry brush, dead trees, and fire hazards; improving emergency evacuation routes and procedures; adding firebreaks where needed to help prevent or slow the spread of wildfire; reducing roadside vegetation key evacuation routes; improving early fire detection and emergency warning systems; and providing homeowners with easy and inexpensive disposal options for trimmings and green waste.

Controlled burns to start in Quesnel on Sunday

Controlled burns to start in Quesnel on Sunday SHARE ON: -Pixabay Controlled burns are set to start in Quesnel tomorrow (April 11th), and will take place until April 16th. The burns will take place as part of the Community Wildfire Protection Plan if air quality is favourable. The locations of the fuel management sites are the South Hills grazing lease (Gassoff’s Range), 10 Mile Lake Provincial Park, and the Hangman Springs Recreation Sites. Burning and thinning activities will be ongoing in those areas and will reduce the chance of a catastrophic wildfire destroying critical infrastructure, improve forest health and animal habitat, generate less smoke than out-of-control wildfires, protect recreation values, and further the mission of managing the landscape and improving ecosystem health.
