Oregon Consumer Justice donates $1 7 million to 26 Oregon nonprofits

Oregon Consumer Justice donates $1.7 million to 26 Oregon nonprofits SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) Oregon Consumer Justice, an Oregon nonprofit with a mission of advancing consumer protection, has donated more than $1.7 million in emergency response grants, supporting 26 Oregon nonprofit organizations that in turn assist communities across the state in both rural and urban areas.  In determining the grant recipients, Oregon Consumer Justice implemented a trust-based philanthropy model, which uses trust as a starting point to break down the traditional power dynamic between funder and grantee and build relationships based on transparency, dialogue and mutual learning. Trust-based grants place the responsibility of due diligence on the grantmaker rather than the grant seeker and simplify and streamline paperwork to remove unnecessary burdens and barriers for grantees.

Actions in 30 cities say Cancel the rents and mortgages! – Liberation News

1,323 8 minutes read Chicago. Liberation photo. From Tampa Bay, Florida, to Portland, Oregon, from Los Angeles to Boston, people took to the streets Jan.30-Feb 1. They organized car caravans, speakouts and dropped banners demanding that the government immediately cancel the rents and mortgages, house the homeless and stop evictions. Actions took place in 30 cities as national and local eviction moratoriums have only paused millions of evictions, and a third of the population can’t pay their bills and are unable to catch up with the rent. An eviction crisis looms that will hit oppressed communities, already especially affected by the pandemic, the hardest. Meanwhile, big landlords are abusing loopholes and filing eviction lawsuits against families regardless of the moratoriums.

In the ninth month of combination pandemic–economic crisis–racial justice uprising advisory committees, my vocal pitch has become unpleasantly sharp. Today there is a protracted argument among Oregon state leaders about whether to return the legislature for emergency lawmaking before the January session. The Oregon eviction moratori
