THE wait is almost over – the South African Popular Music Awards (SAPMA) have officially been launched.
The much anticipated ceremony is aimed at celebrating a decade of great and popular music.
SAPMA will look as far as 2010 to celebrate black excellence, legacy and Mzansi’s music heritage.
Speaking at the launch, SAPMA head of communications Mathawe Matsapola said they were going big with the awards.
“The aim of the first annual ceremony is to celebrate 10 years of great and popular music. This is music that still speaks to our people and will continue to do so for the voiceless, while shaping our cultural identity as a nation.”

Sheridan Nurseries took home five garden centre awards as part of the Landscape Ontario Awards of Excellence virtual awards ceremony earlier this month.
“The judges in this [garden centre] program were looking for sales appeal, originality, ease of shopping cleanliness, use of signage, quality of material and overall impact,” according to the website.
