The Church of the Brethren’s Global Food Initiative (GFI) has given grants to support transition of an agriculture program of Eglise des Freres d’Haiti (the Church of the Brethren in Haiti) to a self-sustaining ministry. Also among recent grants are allocations in support of a community garden of Grace Way Community Church of the Brethren in Dundalk, Md., and a food distribution program of the Alpha and Omega Community Center in Lancaster, Pa.

An allocation of $3,000 for Eglise des Freres d’Haiti (the Church of the Brethren in Haiti) will support transition of the church’s agriculture program to a self-sustaining ministry. BankNewport awards $212K in grants to local nonprofits
BANKNEWPORT has distributed $212,000 in grants to 16 local nonprofits that had their operations and outreach negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
NEWPORT – BankNewport announced July 13 that it had distributed $212,000 in grants to 16 local nonprofits that had their operations and outreach negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
BankNewport said the grants are focused on food insecurity, health services, education, skills training and underserved populations.
The Newport County YMCA received a $100,000 grant for its building campaign, BankNewport said. The other organizations received grants ranging from $2,500 to $25,000.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) Public school teachers in Bismarck-Mandan for years would pull out boxes of crackers or packets of instant macaroni and cheese tucked away in their desk drawers, buy something from a vending machine or make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to give to students they knew wouldn’t get enough to eat over the weekend.
When those students returned to classes recently, many were unable to concentrate, complained of stomach aches and dizziness, or caused disruptions in class. Food insecurity not having reliable access to adequate food was not only a troubling issue for many families, it was having a harmful impact in the schools.
