Randall s Island Park NEW YORK (PRWEB) May 24, 2021 The Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) is the recipient of a $40,000 Urban and Community Forestry Program grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) Division of Lands and Forests. The grant will allow RIPA to create a Community Forest Management Plan (CFMP), which will include retaining an ISA Certified Arborist and consulting with NYC Parks Forestry to develop a Tree Inventory with maintenance recommendations for over 3,000 landscape trees at the Park.

Austin Parcel among the conservation projects honored at Vermont Tree Champions The Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Program (VT UCF) recently bestowed Tree Steward Awards on several Vermonters for their commitment to protecting and preserving their community s forests and trees including Waitsfield and Waterbury Center projects. The Vermont Arbor Day award is dedicated to individuals who have made a difference in their community s urban and community forest. This year one recipient was Jane Brown, Waterbury Center. She was the first landscape architect hired by the Vermont Agency of Transportation, a position she held for 23 years. She was involved in several transportation corridor renovation projects, including Main Street in Waterbury and Route 7 in South Burlington and Brandon. Brown has served on the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council since 1999 and contributed to the VT UCF s Resilient Right-of-Ways project (2015-2020) and the development of the Ve

Huntington Holds Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony with Girl Scouts in Huntington Station

Lupinacci, Councilman Ed Smyth and Councilwoman Joan Cergol were joined by Covanta and Girl Scout Service Unit 12, Troop 239 for an Arbor Day tree planting ceremony and to unveil trees planted with Tree City USA grant funding at Columbia Street Park in Huntington Station.    “Thank you to Covanta Huntington for your environmentally-conscious donation and to our Girl Scouts from Troop 239 for your commitment to Columbia Street Park and many of our green spaces,” stated Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci. “The Town of Huntington is fortunate to have maintained our Tree City USA designation for over 20 years and thanks to your contributions, grant funding from the New York State Urban Forestry Council, and our Volunteer Parks Stewards like Alvin White, we will continue to plant trees, beautify and preserve our open spaces.”

Get an Arbor Day kit at Jeudevine Library

To celebrate Vermont Arbor Day, the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program has provided kits for public libraries with items to get families outside and learn more about trees. This year, Vermont Arbor Day is Friday, May 7, and Jeudevine Library has 40 kits to give away to help families celebrate. The kits include a sugar maple seed planting kit, a tree scavenger hunt, tree craft ideas, a guide to Vermont trees and bookmarks. The kits are free for both individuals and families. If you would like to get a kit, call phone the library at 472-5948 or email jeudevinememoriallibrary@gmail.com. In addition to kits, families that would like to be entered in the Arbor Day raffle can submit a photo of their child or family working on the tree scavenger hunt or Arbor Day craft project.
