The Virgin Islands will receive about $362,000 in funding from the United Nations Covid-19 Response and Recovery Multi-Partner Trust Fund, government announced Tuesday.
The funds will contribute to the income support programme established by the government to assist vulnerable residents affected by the pandemic, according to Government Information Services.
It will be accompanied by technical assistance provided by the International Labour Organisation, the World Food Programme, and UNICEF to enhance residentsâ employability and boost social protection.

Virgin Islands culture and art were central during a week of community meetings hosted by government ministers throughout the territory, but leaders also addressed issues including the development of Road Townâs downtown area and the pandemicâs affect on everything from road work to the planned creation of new industries.
Health and Social Development Minister Carvin Malone updated the territory regarding the number of active Covid-19 cases in the territory as well as an increase in various fines for breaching quarantine protocols.

A contact-tracing effort launched after two visitors to Virgin Gorda tested positive for Covid-19 during exit screening led to the discovery of five additional cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 18, Health and Social Development Minister Carvin Malone announced last Thursday. On Monday, that total was increased to 19.
Though no updates on the tracing had been provided as of the Beaconâs deadline yesterday afternoon, Mr. Malone explained last week that the visitors tested negative while in their initial four- day quarantine and were cleared through their âday fourâ test, but they tested positive during heir required exit screening.
