The Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA) welcomed the Government of New Zealand as a new partner with its multi-year commitment of NZD 6.8 million to support smallholder farmers across Africa, with NZD 4.2 million committed to Rwanda from 2020-2023.
The contribution provided through the World Food Programme (WFP) will enable WFP to scale up its support over the next 3 years targeting 200,000 smallholder farmers in rural areas across Rwanda while working to sustainably transform agricultural markets to become more efficient, resilient, and profitable.
Through FtMA Rwanda, smallholder farmers are supported with a range of services to promote farming as a business, use of improved inputs, and enhancing crop post-harvest management. Smallholder farmers and their cooperatives are then linked to formal financial services that allows them to scale-up and enhance their production. BELLEVILLE A former crop duster is suing Chevron and others alleging his exposure to the herbicide paraquat led to his Parkinson s disease.
Michael Kearns and Jean Kearns filed a complaint Dec. 21 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Syngenta Crop Protection LLC, Syngenta AG, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP, Chevron U.S.A., Inc., and Growmark Inc., alleging strict product liability, negligence, violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, breach of implied warranty of merchantability and other claims.
The Kearns allege in their compliant that between 1969 and 1981 Michael Kearns worked as crop duster and was repeatedly exposed to the chemical paraquat. The plaintiffs allege Michael Kearns inhaled, ingested or absorbed paraquat that was sprayed on farm fields in the areas of Edgerton, Wisconsin and Danville, Ill.
Syngenta, Gowan Collaborate to Deliver New Insecticide Spiropidion to North America

Syngenta recently announced the global launch of spiropidion, an innovative new insecticide active ingredient. The technology will help farmers protect a broad range of crops against damaging and difficult-to-control sucking pests in a targeted, effective and environmentally sustainable manner.

In North America, Syngenta has entered into an agreement with Gowan Co., a family-owned agricultural solutions business headquartered in Yuma, AZ. Gowan has been granted an exclusive license to market and sell a patented spiropidion 300 SC formulation in the U.S. and Canada.
