WILTON An attorney who lives in the town of Wilton was arrested by state police Friday on charges of stealing $1.4 million from a client couple for whom she was doing legal work.
The State Police Financial Crimes Unit arrested Ellen K. Zwijacz, 42, on charges including first-degree grand larceny, first-degree scheming to defraud, and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property. All the charges are felonies that could lead to a state prison sentence.
Zwijacz was released without bail pending a future appearance in Wilton Town Court.

WILTON State Police arrested a Wilton attorney on grand larceny charges after authorities claim she stole $1.4 million from a client.
Ellen K. Zwijacz, 42, was charged with one count each of first-degree grand larceny and scheme to defraud, as well as two counts of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said in a news release issued Friday.
Police say an investigation, done in conjunction with the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office, determined that Zwijacz stole the money from a client who had hired her to assist with legal matters.
Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen said Friday that Zwijacz is accused of having stolen funds, personal property and other effects from two victims, as well as the estate of one of the victims that she was overseeing in a fiduciary capacity.
