Saratoga County creates vaccine hotline

BALLSTON SPA - For those having trouble signing up for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment online, the Saratoga County Department of Health has created a hotline to help residents get in line for the vaccine.
Saratoga Springs Supervisor and Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee Tara Gaston announced the hotline on Wednesday afternoon at a press conference. We do know not everyone has access to either broadband WiFi and the technology to sign up, Gaston said. A lot of our public libraries that could assist with this are closed. We wanted to make sure there was access for everyone..so we can vaccinate residents as quickly as possible.

Hometown Heroes Banner program entries sought
SCHENECTADY Sponsors are sought by March 5 for this year s Hometown Heroes banner program, which recognizes active duty and veteran service members from throughout the county, both living and deceased.
Each banner will honor a service member and will include his or her name, branch of service and photo. Banners will be displayed on light poles in downtown from late May until mid-November.
To qualify, honorees must meet the following requirements:
• Be at least one: A) current county resident; B) born and raised in Schenectady County; C) have graduated from one of county s five school districts

Officials in Saratoga County provided updates Wednesday on a number of efforts related to assisting residents during the pandemic.
Saratoga County Public Health Services Commissioner Dr. Daniel Kuhles says the county is making progress in slowing the spread of COVID-19.
“We’re averaging now about 44 cases a day in the last week. At our peak on January 6th, it was 276 cases per day. So it’s a dramatic decrease,” said Kuhles.
Hospitalizations are down too, and to date, more than 32,000 county residents have received at least one dose of vaccine. Though the supply of vaccine being provided to the county through the state and federal government is increasing, demand still outstrips supply.

Saratoga Springs Mayor Meg Kelly and members of the city council delivered the 2021 State of the City address Tuesday night.
An affair usually held in a large conference room at the Saratoga Springs City Center, the 2021 State of the City address this year went virtual.
It was the last for Democratic Mayor Meg Kelly, who recently announced she would not seek a third two-year term. Kelly opened her remarks by putting things in perspective – last year at this time, city government was hoping it would be able to move operations back into City Hall on Broadway after a lightning strike and small fire damaged the building in August 2018.
